Future First! The 7th Annual World Summit on Girls and STEAM Aims to Close the Gender Gap in STEAM.

An action-packed day full of workshops, mentoring and an inspiring theme will see 300 girls, aged 12-14 explore STEAM career opportunities.

Vancouver, BC, Sept. 25, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The future is bright, and full of girls and science, technology, engineering, art & design, and math (STEAM)! 7th Year World Science Girls and STEAM conferenceproduced by STEMCELL Technologies, is pleased to announce its theme: “Future First!” This action-packed day on Saturday 2nd November ignites passion to nurture the next generation of STEAM leaders.

In line with Science World’s mission of “Science for All,” the Girls and STEAM Conference addresses the continuing gender gap in STEAM careers. With women making up only 24% of STEM bachelor’s programs in Canada[1]this event inspires and mentors girls, introduces them to possible careers and challenges them to think big. To support this development, Girls and STEAM offers year-round online resources, workshops, presentations and events. Although the terms “women” and “girls” are used for this program, this event includes attendees and mentors who identify as women, girls, trans, genderqueer, non-binary, two-spirit, and queer. of equality.

Throughout the day, girls will explore engaging workshops, exhibition booths and a mentor cafe, culminating in an inspiring keynote. Hands-on workshops will focus on topics from physical to mechanical while a mentorship bar will connect participants with more than 50 STEAM professionals.

Building on the success of previous years, “Future Forward!” the theme looks ahead to how to solve unprecedented challenges and create original solutions. From designing sustainable cities to developing life-saving medical technology, the Summit aims to empower girls to dream big about the possibilities that lie ahead.

The event will be headlined by keynote speaker Moronke Harris, an award-winning marine scientist and oceanographer. He has experience in climate engineering, intergovernmental research missions, and has a deep passion for innovation, innovation and the green economy. Harris is an expert on deep-sea hydrothermal vents, venturing thousands of feet below the surface to explore Earth’s last frontier.
